Rafael Altamira: an approach of economic history under a temperate liberalism.

Abstract

This study of texts of Rafael Altamira, shows his mind on the Spain in the XII to XVIII centuries in what concerns to the agricultural and the industrial sector, trade and these same three in reference to the Latin American colonies, to which our author gives big importance, giving account of the purpose with that the author treats distinct subjects that he considers notable, the correct description and the knowledge of the history, during this period. It considers also the economic and social context in that Altamira writes the work. Like this as it is shown also the moderate liberalism of the author inscribed inside the movement regenerationist, that marks the style and the purpose of his historical studies, treating subjects until this moment despised, revealing a rich internal history and valuable common to all pertaining to the nation. It stands out the importance of the figure of Altamira out of our borders not only like historian, but like a liberal intellectual and international jurist.

Este estudio de los textos de Rafael Altamira, muestran su visón sobre la España de los siglos XII a XVIII en lo que concierne a sector agrario e industrial, comercio y estos mismos tres en referencia a las colonias latinoamericanas, a las cuales nuestro autor da gran importancia, dando cuenta de la finalidad con que el autor trata distintos temas que él considera relevante, la descripción correcta y el conocimiento de su historia, para su época. Se considera también el contexto económico y social en que Altamira escribe la obra. Así pues se muestra también el liberalismo moderado del autor inscrito dentro del movimiento regeneracionista, que marca el estilo y la finalidad de sus estudios históricos, tratando temas hasta ese momento despreciados, revelando una historia interna rica y valiosa común a todos los perteneciente a la nación. Se destaca su vez la importancia de la figura de Altamira fuera de nuestras fronteras no solo como historiador, sino como liberalista intelectual y jurista internacional.
