Abstract

The Paralympic Games is an international competition founded by Ludwig Guttmann in 1960 aimed at athletes with certain types of physical, mental and sensory disabilities such as amputations, blindness, cerebral palsy and intellectual deficiencies. Spain participated for the first time in this event in the paralympic games of Tel Aviv in 1968, and since then, has not missed a year. Los Juegos Paralímpicos es una competición internacional fundada por Ludwig Guttmann en 1960 dirigida a atletas con ciertos tipos de discapacidades físicas, mentales y sensoriales como amputaciones, ceguera, parálisis cerebral y deficiencias intelectuales. España participó por primera vez en este evento en los juegos paralímpicos de Tel Aviv en 1968, y desde entonces, no ha faltado ningún año. Pese a que la delegación española lleva participando casi 50 años en esta cita deportiva que se celebra cada cuatro años en paralelo a los juegos olímpicos, no fue hasta las paralimpiadas de Barcelona 1992 cuando la delegación española comenzó a obtener buenos resultados, siendo los atletas valencianos la cuarta parte de la delegación en los últimos juegos paralímpicos celebrados en Rio de Janeiro. Con el reportaje Deportistas y punto: realidad social, económica y mediática , se pretende averiguar a qué se debe el alto nivel de los atletas paralímpicos valencianos así como también ahondar en su vida profesional respondiendo a preguntas como por ejemplo, cómo empezaron a practicar el deporte por el que compiten, cuáles son sus rutinas de entrenamiento y cuánta diferencia hay entre sus rutinas y las que lleva a cabo un atleta convencional. Por otro lado, este reportaje pretende profundizar en por qué los atletas paralímpicos experimentan una desigualdad mediática, es decir, no ocupan tanto espacio en los medios de comunicación como lo ocupa un atleta olímpico. Es por eso que los atletas entrevistados para este reportaje, cuentan en primera persona, cómo se sienten ante esta situación. Pese a que todos coinciden en que se ha avanzado mucho, todavía queda mucho camino por recorrer.Con todo esto, Ariadna Edo, David Casinos, David Levecq, Ricardo Ten y Álvaro Valera, junto a Gabriel Melis, Luis Leardy y Josep Miquel Moya, también hablarán de las ayudas de las que dispone un atleta que practica el deporte adaptado para poder llegar a la competición de alto nivel.
