dc.description.abstract | Quantum dots (QDs) are semiconductor inorganic nanomaterials
and their size ranges within the nanometer scale.
They have useful luminescence characteristics: the absorption
spectra are wide and continuous, and they show narrow
emissions. Consequently, QDs are employed in nanomedicine.
QDs have the ability to detect cancer cells and target them in
different manners. Furthermore once they are delivered they can
be successfully used in imaging of target cells, principally with
invitro
and invivo
studies. Apart from detecting cancer cells,
they also play an important role in therapies for cancer.
QDs can be synthesised by hot injection method, one of the
methods most frequently used nowadays.
Even with the substantial benefits, levels of toxicity remain too
high and this is preventing progress. Therefore it is still not used
on humans due to the potential, harmful implications on the
health of humans. | ca_CA |
