El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo principal presentar y desarrollar las
prácticas profesionales realizadas durante el mes de julio de 2016 del Máster en
Traducción Médico-Sanitaria. En ellas se reflexionó sobre estos aspectos mediante la
traducción de un género de temática médica; así pues, es conveniente presentar el texto
con el que se trabajó y las observaciones iniciales que el equipo entero realizamos
(compañeros y profesores de la asignatura).
En primer lugar es necesario inscribir dicho texto dentro de un género textual.
En este caso, lo más acertado sería incluirlo dentro de los manuales académicos o libros
de texto. Se trata pues de un manual de extracción de sangre dirigido fundamentalmente
a estudiantes o profesionales que desean ampliar sus conocimientos o especializarse en el área de la flebotomía. Como «manual académico» se entiende el «género discursivo
cuya función predominante es la de regular la inserción de los aprendices a un área de
conocimiento específica» (Gutiérrez, 2008: 177-202), por lo que no se trata únicamente
de un manual de lectura, sino que debido a su naturaleza didáctica incluye una serie de
ejercicios y pruebas que ayudan al lector a poder afianzar conocimientos tras el estudio
de cada capítulo. Esto proporciona al traductor una primera toma de contacto con el
texto, y le ofrece información sobre cómo deberá comportarse entonces a la hora de
traducir este volumen: por ejemplo, estará dotado de un estilo particular más relajado y
distendido que un ensayo, se adoptarán unas estrategias fáticas determinadas
(características de este tipo de discurso), o existirá una diversidad de contenido bastante
variada.
El manual académico, llamado Blood Collection: A short course, escrito por
Marjorie Schaub Di Lorenzo y Susan King Strasinger, es una obra de 218 páginas que
recopila información de diferente naturaleza: protocolos de extracción de sangre, temas
legales, traslado de muestras, envases adecuados, técnicas de extracción, temas de
seguridad, etc. El encargo fue propuesto por la Editorial Médica Panamericana y el
plazo de traducción correspondía a un mes (4 semanas). Las prácticas profesionales
consistían pues en la traducción del manual con la ayuda y supervisión de tres
profesores especializados en la traducción de este tipo de género, y se acordó así un
período de traducción y un período de revisión de la obra completa traducida. [-]
