Motivation and Personality

The term Positive Psychology may be traced back as far as Abraham Maslow’s
Motivation and Personality, published in 1954, where the author presents a whole
chapter on the topic. Still, Maslow’s humanist approach did not really stem from
research as opposed to the early 21 st century trends in Positive Psychology led by
Martin Seligman and Mihail Csikszentmihalyi (2000), where research in the
disciple started to gain momentum. We must not neglect, at the end of the day, that
Positive Psychology is indeed Psychology, and as such, it applies the scientific
method and it must root and base its objectives in scientific knowledge and
research. [-]
