The main objective of the course is to become familiar with a professional
environment within the field of study, being the teaching and acquisition of English in
multilingual contexts. At the same time, the practicum would allow the implementation
of course contents from the master’s programme to be implemented while addressing
the needs of the student.
The tasks set out by the syllabus of the practicum include the support and
collaboration in the field of English language teaching in multilingual contexts. The tasks
may include the development of materials, implementation of tasks, lesson planning and
any other activities related to the teaching of the English language; in order to complete
the practicum a centre had to be chosen preferably within primary or secondary
educational institutions.
This paper firstly attempts to provide a theoretical framework based on those
provided throughout the MELACOM course in the area of multilingualism and language
acquisition. Secondly, a detailed description of the educational context where the
practicum was carried out will be outlined. Thirdly, focussing on the theoretical
framework a teaching proposal will then be designed based on multilingual tasks in the
classroom. This proposal will take into consideration the type of students that I
encountered during my practicum, and activities and means of evaluation to suit their
needs, which could be incorporated to enhance student learning, understanding and
acceptance of the globalised world. Finally, an assessment will be carried out so as to
evaluate and anticipate the expected results. [-]
