This final degree project focuses on the relationship between social capital and corruption.
Although the vast majority of the studies carried out about social capital pay special attention on its
economic benefits, is necessary to clarify that the social capital also presents a set of
disadvantages for the society. In this sense, the principal goal of this paper is to show how some
determinants of the social capital can affect the level of corruption. In this way, it has carried out an
empirical analysis where the absence of corruption is the dependent variable, and proxys social
capital variables are the independent variables. The main result obtained is that, in general terms,
social capital reduces the level of corrupton perception but there are some facts that show us the
inverse relationship, so is not possible to establish a certain rule [-]
