Since time ago and from several perspectives, there has been interest in understanding of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), resulting in a great amount of research, although currently there still is not an explicative model that embrace all the aspects and manifestations of this disorder due to its great heterogeneity. The aim of this work is to conduct a literature review on the different research studies that have been carried out in the OCDs field in relation to Emotion Regulation, because of the importance of emotions in psychopathology. OCD, is a disorder characterized by two sets of closely related symptoms, obsessions and compulsions, and associated with great suffering and discomfort, due to its egodystonic nature. On the other hand, one of the most influential definitions of emotion regulation was

proposed by Gross (1998), who defined it as the “processes by which individuals influence which emotions they have, when they have them, and how they experience and express these emotions”. To accomplish this work were examined several documents extracted from different databases, books, and papers. In these it was found that understanding, reactivity and clarity of emotions, difficulties inhibiting impulsive behaviors when experiencing negative emotions and expressive suppression, are related to obsessive-compulsive symptoms. Moreover, it was found that emotion dysregulation is associated with greater symptom severity. To end this work, possible implications for a future research are discussed. [-]
