The present paper aims to study the possibility to implement in Spanish companies nonstop
working days. This allows to the workers a good reconciliation of family life and
private life in a very good manner. Thus, here will be discussed the importance and
benefits that it would have for the hotel industry by using a new method of Timetable
Rationalization. This will allow both men and women to make effective different aspects of
their lives.
It is called Timetable Rationalization, the possibility of a person to be able to perform
various tasks in his everyday life; without the need to give up of any of them. The Spanish
Association for Timetable Rationalization was implemented on 17th July 2003; now it is
called Arohe. Its aims are to make aware the people about the importance of modifying the
schedule of working hours and how they could get improving the quality of life by
harmonizing our country with the rest ones of the European Union.
To promote a better use of time and rational schedules, it was decided to create a National
Commission that had the highest representation of the Spanish way of life in the field of:
politics, economics, Trade Union, social, cultural, educational, etc. Thus, they were more
than 135 personalities that were part of the Commission by relevant institutions, entities,
ministries, autonomous communities, organizations business and trade unions,
universities, civil society, etc. What is more four advisory were created: Social Affairs,
Business Affairs, Affairs Labour and Social Media. In addition to them, the National
Commission set up the National Council including people from different social and
geographical areas that are actively collaborating in the promotion proposals and activities
(Arohe, 2011).
On the one hand, the fact of wanting to implement a streamlined schedules will help Spain
to build a society in which the quality of life is essential as well as the equality of
opportunity; regardless the genus of the person. On the other hand, all those will be
possible with the need of a set of implemented resources that promote this new way of life.
The new way of organizing the work with the help of the Timetable Rationalization would
allow the companies to modify the traditional roles of people at work and will facilitate the
possibility to study without any impediment, with the as well as to reconcile their personal,
family and working life.
In this paper will be discussed a study about: the importance to reconcile the work with
personal life, how affects different timetables the hotel groups (here the NH Group), the
possibilities that has the implementation of the non-split working day. All in all, this
research aims to provide a clear idea about the type of working hours in the hospitality
industry; mainly in NH Group. [-]
