INTRODUCTION: Non-motor symptoms (NMS) of Parkinson's disease (PD) have been identified as a significant impact factor on quality of life. OBJECTIVE: To assess the effect of an educational intervention about non-motor symptoms for patients with Parkinson disease in the Primary Health Care context. METHODS: A quasi-experimental pre-test/post-test study was conducted in three phases: bibliographical research, educational intervention development and effectiveness evaluation. The results were analyzed using SPSS version 19. RESULTS: The final study sample were 7 patients with Parkinson disease from the Asociación de Parkinson Provincia de Castelló. There was an overall increase of knowledge about NMS, although it was not significant. After the intervention, 100% of the participants knew about NMS and they agreed to affirm the relevance that NMS have on their quality of life.
CONCLUSION: Educational interventions are Primary Health Care tools used to increase knowledge and acquire healthy life styles. The results show that the educational intervention implementation produced an improvement about NMS knowledge. However these outcomes are not significant. Due to this, further studies about NMS of PD based on educational interventions are recommended. [-]
