This paper aims to demonstrate the importance of using culture in English as a foreign language class and how its use, along with the use of authentic materials, can increase students‟ interest in learning English; i.e., authentic elements of cultural transmission can be worked on in many different and creative ways in order to enhance students‟ motivation. To begin with, a theoretical framework on culture, authentic materials and motivation will be shown. Furthermore, the results obtained in the research from the different questionnaires carried out by teachers and students of an Official School of Languages and a high school will be shown and analysed. Finally, an attempt will be made to incorporate culture into the classroom using authentic materials. In short, it would be proved that, by implementing certain activities, the use of cultural materials raises motivation and, as a consequence, it predisposes students to be more participative and thus learn more effectively.
