This article analyses women’s presence in the art galleries of Castellón, both as exhibiting artists and as
gallery owners or directors, during the years of the dictatorship. Although their presence was small, it
was sufficient to reflect women’s artistic activity. In this context, of the thirteen galleries founded during
those years, three were managed by women. Oral testimonies, the press and exhibition catalogues show
the particular circumstances that led these women to become interested in the world of art. Their personal
realities reflect the obstacles they faced not only to a professional career in artistic creation, but also in
access to training and exhibiting their work. [-]
