Nowadays there is a growing interest in the processes that influence the learning of a second or foreign language. This current interest is especially reflected in the field of Applied Linguistics, which has an increased number of books devoted to this topic. Nevertheless, it does not mean that everyone succeeds. Learning a language is a complex process with some obstacles people need to get over in order to prosper. Some of them are external, such as the environment or the setting that surrounds speakers, whereas others are internal, like the feelings individuals may experiment during this process. Hence, this final undergraduate dissertation examines the impact of some of these factors in the classroom setting, which may have a positive or negative effect on learners. In particular, it deals with individual variables and more specifically with the manifestation of the assorted sensory preferences in English as a foreign language context. Then, it aims to prove that perception varies among individuals and therefore, learners do not learn in the same way. Additionally, it discusses its repercussion in this setting and it also analyses both teachers and learners’ roles and implications. Conclusively, the results of a study are shown with the intention to provide some evidences that seem to prove that their awareness of sensory preferences is highly valuable for both of them. [-]
