Female Christian martyrs stood firm against the tortures and torment of their captors, enduring till the
end and never breaking with the faith. The purpose of this essay is to interpret the iconography of the
representation of the blessed Christian virgins and to show how their fight for freedom surpassed that
of men. An approach to the meaning of Christian martyrdom that will allow the understanding of the
martyr and the acceptance of pain as triumph will be dealt with. The representation of the iconography
of pain, and how it is used for catechesis or aesthetic enjoyment will be studied. The representations of
the martyrdom of some female Christian saints will be analyzed formally and through the observation of
its meaning and justification in literary sources [-]
