In recent years, interest in the study of women’s psychopathy has been increasing. In the present review, it has been revised if the construct of psychopathy can be applied on samples from prison women and if, therefore, the standard instrument of psychopathy assessment (PCL-R) can be used reliably and valid in female inmates. It has also compared various experimental studies on samples of men and women inmates in order to examine the possible differences in the manifestation of psychopathy in both genders. In general, it has been found that the PCL-R is a reliable and valid tool to assess psychopathy in women and that the construct of psychopathy that evaluates this instrument can be applied in female prison samples, although there are differences in the prevalence of psychopathy, being higher in incarcerated men (15-25%) than women (11%). With regard to the results of various experimental studies conducted with psychopaths, it has been observed small differences between genders in modulating the startle response, emotional facilitation, selective attention and response regulation [-]
