El objeto de este artículo es el estudio de cómo se organizaba el factor trabajo en las explotaciones plataneras en las Islas Canarias durante el primer tercio del siglo XX Tras un breve recorrido por la evolución del comercio de la fruta en ese periodo, el texto describe las labores desempeñadas en el cultivo del plátano y las necesidades de mano de obra para desempeñarlas. La información contenida en la contabilidad de una explotación, que puede considerarse representativa por sus dimensiones y la fuerza de trabajo ocupada, permite realizar un análisis dinámico, tanto del empleo de mano de obra como de su productividad. This article seeks to study the labour organisation on banana farms in the Canary Islands in the first third of the 20th century. After a brief review of the fruit trade at that time, the paper describes the work involved in banana production and the ensuring labour needs. The information contained in the accounting system of a holding, which may be considered representative due to its size and workforce involved, enabled us to perform a dynamic analysis of labour needs and its productiveness.
