The task of introducing new vocabulary in the English as a Second or Foreign Language classroom has always been a challenge for teachers throughout the history of English Language Teaching, furthermore the importance of vocabulary teaching increases if we move onto specific fields, as it is the case of English for Specific Purposes settings. In recent years, the Cognitive Linguistics paradigm has brought a new light to this issue, proposing that language and cognition go hand in hand. For that reason this paper takes the Cognitive Frames Theory into account when introducing new vocabulary in the Business English classroom. The aim of this paper is twofold, to analyze how vocabulary is introduced in Business English courses and to propose a new approach to introduce new vocabulary in the classroom. Three textbooks were analyzed looking for the activities students were presented regarding vocabulary. The Findings suggest that context is taken into account when introducing vocabulary, but not in a desirable way concerning the Cognitive Frames Theory in which the understanding of the situation is key. The proposal presented brings up some ideas on potential activities in order to activate the students’ awareness about the existence of the Cognitive Frames Theory, being this awareness a basic aspect when introducing this theory in the classroom.
