Nonverbal Communication has been proven to be almost essential if a prosperous
communication is to take place. It is usually forgotten that elements such gestures,
body posture, melody of the voice and many others actually communicate much more
than any word we can utter. This study offers a clear and understandable insight on
the topic of Nonverbal Communication (NVC) and Body Language (BL). The document
begins by examining the undermining treat this “pendant subject” has had throughout
the history of Foreign and Second language teaching. The notion of NVC is expounded,
departing from what it is, why it happens to be so relevant while interacting, up to the
different functions it can entail and the different sort of nonverbal communication
elements involved in communication. From a linguistic and evolutionary psychological
perspective, the document aims at improving academic presentations by enhancing
the interpretation and production of specific NVC behaviours, for this reason,
suggestions on kinesics (body movements) and vocalics (features of the voice) are
made at the end. [-]
