This research aims to study the relationship between the grade of satisfaction of basic
psychological needs, strategies of avoidance learning and academic achievement of students. The sample consisted of 266 subjects, all students of psychology from Universitat

antic plan is imparting). Due to the extinction of degrees, this study also seeks to find
differences in the students of both academic years. Overall, the results obtained using
Pearson bivariate correlations, confirmed that when the satisfaction of psychological
basic needs is low the students used more avoidence strategies (for example: avoid
asking for help, avoid effort and challenges, avoid the novelty...) and this hurts their
academic performance. In addition, significant differences were found between the two
academic years in some of the variables selected. [-]
