This project analyses the evolution of the Spanish banking system over the past 30
years and discusses future prospects. Therefore, a brief introduction of what the
financial system consists of is presented at the beginning, together with an approach to
the first laws and dispositions which start to be approved for the organization of the
financial system. Later on, the crisis of the financial system is analysed by highlighting
the organizational weaknesses and also the main mistakes made during these years.
With this purpose, a series of measures are adopted such as the reform of the saving
banks with a series of mergers and absorptions as well as the financial reform. The
aims are to reduce the size of the financial system and to restructure the balances. At
the end, we enumerate the big challenges like the need of the credit’s rise within the
companies and families again as well as the economy’s recovery. [-]
