Although tattoos can be seen in red carpets, soccer stadiums, stages, walking down the street, it is still a total stranger for our society. Ink and Skin in Castellón is a digital report whose main goal is showing the different faces of tattoo: its history, its technique and its social aspect. All of it focused in Castellón’s scene, used as centre and model.
Taking advantage of the web media possibilities, Ink and Skin in Castellón make use of the new journalist techniques and because of its storytelling define a journalist article where text, photography, video, audio, links and graphics can be found.
The tattoo seen as an historical and cultural phenomenon, making a research about its origins, meanings and all the way through it changed of being a typical tribe feature to become an artistic element in people’s bodies (body art). It has also been studied the previous motivations before getting a tattoo: how you decide where it goes, the different styles, the importance of the studio, etc. And all of this, without forgetting the tattoo artist, turned into an artist and a psychologist. Ink and Skin in Castellón uses the testimony of three renowned tattoo artists to shape an analysis about this whole culture and its scene in Castellón. It also explores the potential prejudices or stereotypes that tattoos can generate in tattoo artists or the people tattooed. However, tattoo professionals are not the only ones taking part in Ink and Skin in Castellón, Castellón society is in charge of validating or nullifying all these preconceived ideas. Are young people more tolerant about the tattoo than old people? Is tattoo considered part of the culture? Is the tattoo an inconvenient while you are looking for a job?
Ink and Skin in Castellón also open a new path still unknown: are tattoos a communicative act? [-]
