| ca_CA |
dc.description.abstract | Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the second best known neurodegenerative disease around the world, after Alzheimer’s type dementia. PD affects 1%-2% of people over 65 years old and the 3%-5% of people over 85 years old. PD is defined as a neurodegenerative disease that affects the ability to generate voluntary movement, because a dopaminergic degeneration in the nigrostriatal system. Recent evidence supports the idea of the existence of non-motor symptoms as the disease advances. It seems, these symptoms appear because of the expansion of the dopaminergic degeneration from the nigrostriatal system towards other dopaminergic that affect other structures of the basal ganglia. Thus, this review summarizes recent information about PD focusing on non motor symptoms observed in investigations in human patients with the aim to describe how and why the cardinal symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and non-motor symptoms appear and progress. | ca_CA |
