Paces, pleitos y perdones (comportamientos sociales de los oriolanos en los siglos XVI y XVII)

Abstract

Las relaciones vecinales de los oriolanos de los siglos XVI y XVII no son nada idílicas, bien al contrario, se manifiestan llenas de tensión. Los conflictos surgen a menudo por cuestiones nimias, y no tan nimias, y las consecuencias son, con harta frecuencia, graves: golpes, heridas y muertes se prodigan en estas centurias. Para resolver los conflictos se dictaron leyes y se crearon tribunales. Los vecinos se servirán de unas y otros acudiendo a las instituciones planteando pleitos, mas son conscientes de que los pleitos generan gastos además de no resolver, siempre, el conflicto. Los oriolanos recurrieron entonces a otros procedimientos donde ética y religiosidad se unieron: firmaron actas de paz, con el fin de prevenir el conflicto, y otorgaron perdones para solucionar la situación, rota, tras el conflicto. Todo por la búsqueda de la paz vecinal y la mejora de la convivencia.

Neighbourhood relations of Orihuela people in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries are nothing idyllic, on the contrary, arise full of tension. Conflicts often emerge for minor matters, and not so trivial, and the consequences are, so often, severe: beatings, injuries and deaths were frequent in these centuries. To resolve the conflicts, laws were enacted and courts were established. Neighbours make use of these means posing lawsuits, but they are aware of the cost of litigation knowing that does not always solve the conflict. Then, people in Orihuela turned to other procedures where ethics and religion joined: signed agreements of peace to prevent conflict, and give pardons so as to resolve the situation broken after the conflict. All with the goal of living in peace among neighbours and to improve community life.
