dc.description.abstract | We show that if p is a selective ultrafilter, then for each cardinal α⩽ω1α⩽ω1, there exists a topological group G such that GβGβ is almost p-compact (in particular, countably compact), for β<αβ<α, but GαGα is not countably compact.
