This study was conducted with teacher trainees at university. On being asked what project
they would like to do, the answer was almost unanimous: interculturality. And the students
who defended it successfully persuaded the rest of their classmates with their arguments. The
lecturer asked them: are we racists? And the reply was again unanimous: no! So the lecturer
answered them: yes! The objective they were to pursue then was to determine whether that
“no” was wishful thinking or indeed a reality. The first step was to distinguish between the
concepts of multicultural education and intercultural education. They were then given a series
of data about immigration that highlight the social urgency of the issue. The next step was to
work on the hidden curriculum in the images and texts in juvenile and children's literature. The
result was a cooperative project that generated shared knowledge based on a way of working
with information that fosters interaction, dialogue and thought about cultural diversity. [-]
