Milan European Council

Abstract

The Milan European Council met under the Presidency of Bettino Craxi and with the participation of Heads of State and Government and the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the twelve Member States. The ECC was represented by Jacques Delors, President, and Lorenzo Natali, Vice President. The Council had a big debate on the ad hoc committee’s proposals on institutional questions and on numerous concrete measures intending to insure the increasing support of European citizens for Community construction. The economic and social situation was also discussed. In addition, the Council welcomed the White Paper on the completion of the internal market and noted that a collective effort to master the newest technologies is the necessary condition for maintaining European competitiveness. The Council also examined trade issues with Japan, the famine in Africa and relations between the EC and the Comecon (Council for Mutual Economic Assistance).

Consejo Europeo de Milán bajo presidencia de Bettino Craxi y con la participación de los Jefes de Estado y de Gobierno y de los Ministros de Asuntos Exteriores de los 12 Estados miembros. El Consejo tuvo un gran debate sobre las propuestas de los comités en cuestiones institucionales an sobre medidas que tratan de incrementar la ayuda de los Ciudananos europeos para una Comunidad en construcción. La situación económica y social también fue discutirda. Además el Consejo aprobó el Libro Blanco sobre mercado interior y señaló que un es necesario un esfuerzo colectivo para para mantener el nivel de competitividad de Europa. El Consejo también examinó el comercio con Japón, la situación de Africa y las relaciones entre la EC y el Comecon.
