Una luz cegadora en los límites de la representación : algunas reflexiones en torno a Relámpago sobre el agua

Abstract

En el año 1980 Wim Wenders y Nicholas Ray firmaron la autoría de una película inclasificable: Relámpago sobre el agua (Lightning Over Water). En ella, un procedimiento elaboradísimo de mise en abîme excedía el espacio físico (marco, ventana, pantalla) para colocarse en el metafísico e intentar capturar un hálito de vida allá donde el fin –de la película y de la vida… el advenimiento de la muerte– parecería no tener cabida salvo en aquello que en sí mismo pudiera acontecer como punto final definitivo y sin posible redención. Al visionar este título emblemático, ¿estábamos ante la constatación del fin de la ficción o ante el final de la vida de un hombre, de la amenaza latente de un mundo real, siniestro?

In 1980 Wim Wenders and Nicholas Ray wrote and directed an unclassifiable film entitled Lightning Over Water. In this work, a highly elaborated procedure of mise en abyme exceeded the physical space (frame, window, screen) to set itself within metaphysics in an attempt to capture a breath of life there where the end – of the film and of life… the advent of death – would appear not to fit in, except in that which in itself could occur as the ultimate full stop and with no possible redemption. On watching this emblematic film, were we before proof of the end of fiction or before the end of a man’s life, of the latent threat of a real, sinister world?
