Los Derechos humanos y la eliminación de la violencia contra la mujer

Abstract

Hace ahora 60 años, un 10 de diciembre de 1948, la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas aprobó y proclamó la Declaración Universal de los Derechos Humanos. Gracias a esta Declaración las mujeres pasaron a convertirse en sujetos explícitos de atención en el ámbito internacional, en igualdad de condiciones y con los mismos derechos que los hombres. Hoy, finalizando el 2008 y tras 60 años de aquella declaración se hace necesario revisar y reflexionar sobre la evolución histórica y las propuestas de futuro en la relación derechos humanos y mujeres. Además de ese objetivo general este artículo tiene como objetivo específico abordar las contribuciones de los Derechos Humanos a la eliminación de la violencia contra la mujer, por ello revisaremos las principales Declaraciones de las Naciones Unidas al respecto, con especial énfasis en la Declaración de las Naciones Unidas sobre la Eliminación de la Violencia contra la Mujer de 1993 y en la Resolución 1325 del Consejo de Seguridad de las Naciones Unidas del 2000

60 years ago, on 10 December 1948, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Thanks to this declaration, women became the subjects of explicit attention in the international arena, on equal terms and with the same rights as men. Today, at the end of 2008 and 60 years after that declaration, it is necessary to review the history and the future proposals of the relationship between women and human rights and to reflect about it. In addition to this overall objective, this paper is specifically targeted to address the contributions of human rights to the elimination of violence against women. For this reason, we will review the main United Nations declarations on this subject, with a special emphasis on the UN Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women of 1993 and the Resolution 1325 of the Security Council of the United Nations of 2000.
