Introduction
Alcohol is the most widely used drug on a global scale and has been introduced into
our culture for thousands of years. It is accessible in all strata of the population and in
all ages being the direct and indirect cause of many diseases and social and health
problems. Currently 4 etiological pathways are postulated as the precursors that give
rise to the consumption of this substance. The study focuses on a sample of
adolescent population and the objective is to see how the personality dimensions of
the subjects correlate with the various ways described, giving rise to such complex
behavior as alcohol consumption, use and abuse. problematic.
Method
A sample consisting of 523 adolescents from Castellón was used, aged between 13
and 18 whose average age was 14.99 with a T.D. of 1.17 and a percentage of sex
segregation of 48.6% of women by 51.4% of men.
Results
To obtain the results, a model of structural equations was used, specifically a Pearson
correlation and descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation). These equations
showed how different pathways correlate with personality. The regulation of negative
affect is a way that is motivated by the coping with the problems of the subject and
has been seen to be related to the personality dimension of neuroticism. Recreational
consumption on weekends was related to extraversion, kindness and responsibility
regarding the way of coping with positive affects. As for the path of deviation
propensity, it is related to extraversion and low kindness and responsibility, giving
rise to consumption patterns that take place both on weekends and on weekdays, as
well as alcohol-related problems.
Conclussions
The hypothesis is fulfilled and the complex interaction of the dimensions of the
personality with respect to the etiological pathways is shown, showing how the
consumption patterns of use and abuse can occur. [-]
