The theoretical review carried out determined the changes in the diagnosis of the category of
Pervasive Developmental Disorders, encompassed in the DSM-IV-TR (2002) which became
part of the diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder according to DSM-5 (2013). That is why it
evolves from the categorical to the dimensional, with a unified diagnosis of ASD with gravity
specifiers. The objective is to check whether comparisons in the diagnosis of PDD and Autism
are made in existing publications from 2013 to the present day (DSM-IV-TR and DSM-5). Out of
33 documents were removed 27 for being present in meta-analysis and 1 for not making the
diagnostic difference of DSM-5 by re-evaluating patients diagnosed with DSM-IV-TR. Three
meta-analyses, a systematic review and one article were included. The databases were used
for the selection: Google Academic, PubMed and Web of Science, from 2013 to 2019. Results
using the DSM-5 criteria show the maintenance of the diagnosis of Autism Disorder as ASD at
an average of 73’1%, highlighting patterns of restrictive and repetitive behaviors with the
inclusion of hypo or hypersensitivity. For the Pervasive Developmental Disorders subgroup, the
Asperger’s Disorder category rates as ASD at an average of 58’85%, becoming largely part of
ASD level 1, due to its lower severity and increased cognitive ability. For the PDD-NOS
category qualifies as ASD at an average of 28’17% becoming part largely of the new diagnosis
“Social (pragmatic) communication disorder”. ASD detection tools are the same as with the
revised DSM-IV, such as ADI-R and ADOS-2, which quantify severity. The objective is met, as
the diagnosis has been modified, moving most to Autism Spectrum Disorders. [-]

Google Académico, PubMed y Web of Science, de 2013 a 2019.
Espectro Autista. [-]
