In the framework of an interdisciplinary approach that combines post-colonial feminism
lenses with Peace Studies and Intersectionality theories, this Master thesis explores the needs
and rights of the Amazigh indigenous people of Morocco in the aftermath of the (20 February
Movement) uprising. Here they advocated for their rights to national recognition regarding
culture, language and resource distribution. It mainly focuses on exploring the situation of
Amazigh women suffering double hardships and isolation in terms of access to education,
health, and other social services. It also looks at the perception of Amazigh women as being
illiterate, passive, and backward in the national picture. Such a study is fundamental in
unveiling the complexity and misconceptions of the topic. Furthermore, it pursues answers
to the failure/ success of the implementation of the 2011 constitution reforms (articles 5 and
19) and its outcomes in empowering or hindering minority rights in Morocco. This
dissertation additionally analyses the hegemonic feminist discourses (Islamic and Secular)
and their neglection of Amazigh rural women. The latter part of this study endeavors to
construct a peaceful hybrid intersectional feminism framework that recognizes previous
discourses as well as highlights the pre-Islamic North African agency of Berber women. This
framework further suggests that subaltern voices be self-re-presented on the national debates
as they are also integral part of society and contributors to Morocco’s development and
tourism industry. [-]
