El mito histórico de la nación

Abstract

La nación o el nacionalismo son conceptos que en la sociedad actual apenas se cuestionan, ya que se creen bastante consolidados y su definición nos puede parecer bastante obvia. Pues una nación es básicamente un país con una cultura, bandera, y fronteras concretas, o un conjunto de habitantes de un país regido por el mismo gobierno, según las descripciones más habituales pero ¿son realmente esas unas descripciones adecuadas? Para responder a estas cuestiones, la siguiente investigación se dividirá en dos partes principalmente. En la primera, el objetivo será centrarnos en el análisis del nacionalismo y la nación, desde la perspectiva de los principales autores que analizan el tema desde un punto de vista histórico, social y en cierta medida filosófico, para poder ver más de cerca los detalles que sustentan al nacionalismo, y si son o no suficientes para ver si la nación desde un punto de vista teórico es un gigante con los pies de barro. En la segunda parte analizaremos las primeras constituciones liberales, para comprobar si en ellas aparece o no el concepto de la nación, y si se define de alguna forma, tal y como lo hace hoy en día el nacionalismo.

Concepts like nation or nationalism are barely questioned in today’s society, since they are believed to be quite consolidated and their definition may seem quite obvious to us, for a nation is basically a country with a specific culture, flag and borders, or a set of inhabitants of a country governed by the same government, according to the most common descriptions. However, are those descriptions actually adequate? To answer these questions, the following research will be divided into two main parts: in the first part, the aim will be focused on the analysis of nationalism and the nation from the main authors’ perspective who analyze the subjecto from a historical, social and, to some extent, a philosophical point of view, in order to be able to establish the underlying details of nationalism more closely, and to determine if they are enough to judge whether the nation is a giant with feet of clay from a theoretical point of view. In the second part, we will analyze the first liberal constitutions to verify whether the concept of the nation appears in them, and whether it is defined in any way, as nationalism does today.
