Abstract
Background
:
Fibromyalgia
syndrome
is o
ften associated with depression. However,
there is little research on the
process of developing depression in
pain
conditions
.
Cognitive content could be a good way to measure depressive thinking and a target for
interventions.
The aim of this study is
to evaluate the efficacy of
a positive psychology
intervention in increasing positive cognitions and reducing negative content compared
to a control intervention. Moreover, we explore the
role
of cognitive content
on
depression in fibromyalgia
.
Method
:
S

randomly allocated to the B

intervention
(n=37)
or a Daily Activities control condition
(n=33)
.
The short version of
the sentence completion test was used
as outcome
.
The
responses were coded by
valence
and content by two
independent raters. Depression was assessed by the B

All
measures
were administered
before and after the
intervention
.
Results:
A
fter a posit

participants
reduced their
depressive symptomatology and
generated more positive content compared to
participants
in the
control
condition
.
Participants
in both condi
tions r

intervention.
Furthermore, par
ticipants that practiced the best possible
self
generated
more positive and less negative sentences related to the future and the
ir
health. Post
-
treatment levels of positive thinking
and reduced negative health cognitions
helped explain the reduction in depressive symptomatology even when controlling for
baseline scores.
Conclusions:
T

ntervention is effective in increasing positive
cognitions compared to a control condition.

Antecedentes:
Existe poca
co
gniciones
positivas y reducir
contenido negativo
comparada
con una intervención
control.
Además, explora

Método
:
Setenta participantes fu
eron asignados aleatoriamente a la
intervención
de Mi
Mejor Yo
(n = 37) o

una condición control de Actividades D

(n = 33).
Un
test
de
oraciones abiertas
se utilizó como
medida de
resultado. Las respuestas fueron
codificad
as según
valencia y contenido por dos
codificadores
. La depresión fue
evaluada por el
Inventario de Depresió

-
II
. Todas las medidas se administraron
antes y después de la intervención.
Resultados:
Después de
la
intervención
positiva
, los participantes redujeron su
sintomat
ología depresiva y generaron
contenido más positivo en comparación con los
p
articipantes en la condición
control. Los participantes en ambas condiciones redujeron
el contenido negativo
. L
os pa
rticipantes que practicaron el Mejor Yo
generaron
oraciones más positivas y menos negativas relacionadas con el futuro y su s

la reducción en las

son un mecanismo de cambio
