Corporate governance in family businesses

Abstract

The aim of this study is to explain the key role of family businesses in the Spanish economy. First, there will be a description of the elements that form the Corporate Governance and those particular to family businesses. Furthermore, analysis will be conducted on the transparency of Corporate Governance in the 11 most important family businesses of Spain. This analysis will be performed according to The Global Family Business Index. In order to perform this transparency analysis, the models of IAGC (Annual Report of Corporate Governance) and IAR (Annual Report of Remuneration) established by the CNMV (National Commission of the Stock market) will be followed. There will also be a study of the characteristic elements of Corporate Governance in family businesses and its implementation. To conclude, there will be a summary of the information resulting of the analysis of the businesses, as well as of the findings of the study.
