La transmisión de roles de género y estereotipos de la mujer a través de los videojuegos

Abstract

En el presente trabajo, se tratará de observar si existe una discriminación de género en los videojuegos. En la actualidad, los videojuegos constituyen una parte importante en nuestra sociedad, pero muchos juegos contienen rasgos negativos para la educación de los y las más jóvenes, mostrando violencia, muertes, agresiones a mujeres, palabras mal sonantes, discriminaciones. Pero no sólo eso, sino que además marcan y transmiten unos roles y estereotipos de la mujer dentro de los juegos que confunden a las personas jóvenes. Para poder comprobar si existe esa discriminación, se ha realizado un estudio explorativo, en el que he hecho uso de libros, revistas y artículos científicos, así como de mi propia experiencia como mujer y jugadora de videojuegos. Siendo una mujer gamer, he tenido que sufrir muchas veces insultos, desaprobaciones e incluso dar explicaciones de porqué juego a esos videojuegos. No me parece justo que, por ser de un género u otro, no podamos disfrutar de las mismas cosas y del mismo entretenimiento, y eso me ha motivado a la hora de elegir este tema para mi TFG.

In the present work, it will be tried to observe if there is a gender discrimination in videogames. Today, videogames are more important in our society, but many games contain negative traits for the education of the youngest, showing violence, deaths, attacks on women, bad words, discriminations. But not only that, but also mark and transmit roles and stereotypes of women within games that confuses the young. When I ask my friends what type of games I prefer, I tell them that I play Call of Duty, Diablo III, Starcraft II, Metal Gear Solid V, Tekken, among others (games classified as violent, sexist and strategic), many they are surprised and even do not believe me and others instead say that "that game is very violent and it is not for ladies”. I think it is an issue that is present in today's society, but it is not treated in detail; and looking at the articles I have found for this investigation, a critical perspective is needed with the transmission of gender stereotypes in video games, as it may offend many gamers and impair the way they understand and view women from the perspective of young people. The objective is to sensitize, make visible and even shed light on people and players, that in most games there is a stereotype of women which often are very sexualized and exaggerated. That gets to affect the education of young people, and make them believe that more than half of the world's population should not be treated in the same way, nor should they have the same rights as the male gender.
