dc.description.abstract | The concept of this project is to create an application to transform a portion of the real-world map into a 3D terrain, with the game engine Unity, with an easy-to-use interface, so people with low video game design background can also use it, as well as people who are familiar with the Unity engine. With a downloaded file containing the orography and heights of the terrain of a chosen area, from a Google Maps real-world map, the application can then take that information and represent it as a 3D mesh that will be added to a Terrain object from Unity. The project will have both a Unity asset package for those who own Unity and an executable for those who do not and also want just a basic terrain creation tool. In three simple steps, the user can create a base terrain for their need. After creating the base terrain, the user can modify its dimensions as well as adding textures and water to the terrain to get a higher quality environment. This additions can be placed on a height range provided by the user via the application's interface. The user can explore the terrain created with a flying camera or a first person camera, to get both a general vision of the entire terrain or a close-up to check every detail of the textures blending. The terrain created can later be exported as a mesh .OBJ file to other game engines or graphic design software. This object will contain a mesh, that represents the real-world terrain on a lower quality scale, created from importing the heightmap file. | ca_CA |
