Estigma y enfermedad mental. Un caso real

Abstract

This essay reviews the history of stigmas that are associated to mental illness and the different types that are related to it. Besides, it tries to give a practical example of how we could overcome this very stigma through participation in society, as much as population and the person who suffer mental illness. For that, it has been focused in a real case -the one from J.C.- that, after suffering a discriminatory situation derived from the strong stigma that surrounds mental illness in general, through his participation in a table game’s workshop, he has achieved a correct incorporation to that group as well as an improvement in several areas of his own life. After a brief introduction where is explained the structure of the essay, followed by the theoretical framework, it has been summarized the mentioned real case exposure as well as the complete diary about sessions of interventions made with J. C. Thereby, with the information collected after interventions together with the ones extracted from the personal interview made with the user, we have reach to the synthesis of several conclusions and some improvement proposals that are considered very important in this field.

Este trabajo repasa la historia del estigma asociado a la enfermedad mental y los distintos tipos existentes. Además, trata de dar un ejemplo práctico de cómo es posible superar este estigma a través de la participación, tanto de la población general como de la persona con enfermedad mental, en la sociedad. Para ello, se ha centrado en un caso real, el de J.C que, tras sufrir una situación de discriminación derivada del fuerte estigma que rodea a la enfermedad mental, a través de su participación en un taller de juegos de mesa, ha logrado la inclusión en este grupo y la mejora en varias áreas de su vida. Tras una breve introducción donde se explica la estructura del trabajo, seguido del marco teórico, se ha recogido la exposición del caso real, así como, el diario de sesiones de las intervenciones realizadas con J.C. Con la información recogida tras las intervenciones, así como con la extraída de la entrevista realizada al usuario, se ha llegado a la síntesis de varias conclusiones y unas propuestas de mejora que se consideran importantes en este ámbito.
