La Batalla de Llevant a la Plana Baixa. Un estudi de l’avantguarda i la rereguarda

Abstract

La Batalla de Llevant fou un enfrontament entre les tropes franquistes i republicanes que es va produir durant la Guerra Civil Española, i que fins fa poc de temps estava en l’oblit. D’aquesta idea emana aquest treball de final de grau, on indagarem en els fets que es produïren en l’avantguarda i la rereguarda en la Plana Baixa. Concretament, els objectius d’aquesta investigació són: posar en valor al Batalla de Llevant per la seua rellevància en la història, mostrar les accions revolucionàries que es produïren en la Plana Baixa durant aquest període, i analitzar el paper de la dona republicana durant la Guerra Civil. En aquesta Batalla les tropes rebels no aconseguiren els resultats esperats que en un primer moment s’havien marcat. Les tropes insurgents, després de la conquesta de la ciutat de Castelló, tenien l’objectiu d’arribar en molt poc de temps a la ciutat de València. Les fortes línies defensives republicanes, en especial la línia XYZ, impediren l’avanç que tenien planejat les tropes franquistes i aconseguiren derrotar-les en la zona de la Plana Baixa i la Serra d’Espadà. Pel que fa a la rereguarda, des que es produeix el colp d’Estat en contra de la Segona República, alguns partits i sindicats, com ara la CNT, tenien en ment fer la revolució i la guerra al mateix temps. Durant la Guerra Civil es produeixen accions revolucionaries, com ara les incautacions de terres als grans propietaris. Aquestes terres es legalitzaven i posteriorment s’explotaven d’una manera col·lectiva, buscant un benefici comú. També un altre fenomen molt important de la rereguarda en la Plana Baixa foren els refugiats. Quan el front encara no estava situat en aquesta comarca molta gent va decidir marxar de les seues localitats i buscar un lloc més segur, que el trobaren en aquesta zona fins que el front de guerra es va apropar a aquest territori. Un altre aspecte important que es va produir durant la Guerra Civil va ser el paper de les dones republicanes. En aquest període gran quantitat de dones participaren en contra del feixisme. Per una banda, trobem a les milicianes que participaren activament en el front de guerra. I per una altra, durant la Guerra Civil apareixen organitzacions feministes com ara la Agrupación de Mujeres Antifascistas (AMA) i Mujeres Libres. Per últim, cal mencionar les fortes onades de violència i repressió que sofriren ambdues rereguardes. En la rereguarda franquista, quasi tota la gent vinculada a algun partit o sindicat republicà va ser empresonada o afusellada. Pel que fa a la rereguarda republicana, també es produïren fets violents contra la gent partidària de Franco. Un dels exemples més clars van ser els atacs a les esglésies, ja que les vinculaven amb el bàndol franquista i per tant la culpaven de la guerra.

The Levante Offensive was a confrontation between Franco’s troops and the republican troops that happened during the Spanish Civil War. Until recently, this confrontation had been forgotten. This is the basis of this final degree project in which we will investigate what happened in the vanguard and the rearguard in the Plana Baixa. In particular, the aims of this investigation are: to give value to the Levante Offensive because of its relevance in history, to show the revolutionary actions which took place in the Plana Baixa during this period, and to analyze the role of the republican women during the Civil War. In this offensive, the republican troops didn’t achieve the objectives set at first. The insurgent troops, after conquering the city of Castelló, had as their main objective to arrive to València as soon as possible. The strong republican defensive lines, specially the XYZ line, prevented the advance of Franco’s troops and defeated them in the area of the Plana Baixa and the Serra d’Espadà. In terms of rearguard, since the coup d’état against the Second Spanish Republic occurred, many parties and syndicates, such as CNT, wanted to carry out a revolution and to go to war at the same time. During the Civil War, many revolutionary actions took place, for example, big landowners had their lands confiscated. These lands were legalised and then, they were used collectively in order to get a common benefit. Other significant fact from the rearguard in the Plana Baixa was the existence of refugees. Before the troops arrived to this region, many people decided to leave their towns and to look for a safer place. Thereby, they stayed in this area until the troops were closer. Another important aspect that happened during the Civil War was the role of the republican women. In this period, a lot of women fought against the fascism. On the one hand, there were militiawomen who actively participated on the front lines. On the other hand, some feminist organisations appeared, such as the Agrupación de Mujeres Antifascistas (AMA) and Mujeres Libres. Finally, it is important to mention that both rearguards suffered heavy waves of violence and repression. In the Francoist rearguard, almost everyone connected to a party or syndicate was imprisoned or executed. In the republican rearguard there were violent actions against Franco supporters, too. One of the most obvious examples was the different attacks against churches because they considered that churches supported Franco and so, churches were blamed for the war.
