Terapia asistida con animales en pacientes oncológicos: una revisión bibliográfica

Abstract

El cáncer causa desajustes psicológicos y emocionales debido a su naturaleza crónica. Los pacientes oncológicos tienen una alta prevalencia de padecer algún trastorno psicológico, entre los que destacan la depresión y los trastornos de ansiedad. Estos pueden interferir en la adherencia del tratamiento oncológico afectando al paciente a nivel físico, psíquico y social. En los últimos años, nuevos estudios destacan el uso de animales en terapia, informando de los múltiples beneficios que tienen los animales como coayudantes afectivos. El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo realizar una revisión bibliográfica sobre el uso de la terapia asistida con animales en pacientes oncológicos. Para recopilar información acorde con el tema se ha consultado en bases de datos científicas con los descriptores: animal-assisted therapy “and” cancer. En total se obtuvieron 41 artículos que tuvieran ambos descriptores y se seleccionaron 8, aquellos más adecuados e interesantes para desarrollar en la presente revisión bibliográfica. Los artículos se van a analizar diferenciados por las edades de los pacientes (niños y adultos). En todos los estudios las intervenciones con los perros se desarrollan dentro del hospital y los pacientes pueden interactuar libremente con el animal: acariciándolo, hablándole, peinándolo… Estos estudios sugieren que la presencia de un animal de terapia tiene beneficios fisiológicos y psicosociales, puede reducir el estrés, la ansiedad y la depresión, mejorar el estado de ánimo además de desarrollar un sentimiento se seguridad, fomentar la alianza terapéutica entre paciente y profesional de la salud.

These can interfere in the adherence of oncological treatment affecting the patient on a physical, psychic and social. In recent years, new studies have highlighted the use of animals in therapy, reporting the multiple benefits that animals have as affective co-workers. The objective of this study was to conduct a literature review on the use of animal assisted therapy in cancer patients. In order to collect information according to the topic, it has been consulted in scientific databases with the descriptors: animalassisted therapy "and" cancer. In total, 41 articles were obtained that had both descriptors, and 8 were those that were more adequate and interesting to develop in the present bibliographic review. The articles will be analyzed differentiated by the ages of the patients (children and adults). In all studies interventions with dogs are developed within the hospital and patients can interact freely with the animal: caressing, talking, combing... These studies suggest that the presence of an animal therapy has physiological and psychosocial benefits, can reduce stress, anxiety and depression, improve mood in addition to developing a feeling of security, foster therapeutic alliance between patient and professional health.
