Process-bassed structure in a chemical plant: the supply chain business unit: analysis and improvements

Abstract

The present Master´s thesis analyses the environment that surrounds 21st century organizations and influences the managerial strategies which are performed by companies to adapt to its requirements. Thus, the development of organizational structure is studied in this project to show the changes adopted by those businesses that aim to compete in the current framework. An example of this practice is performed by the multinational company Ube Corporation Europe, which is aware of market demands and has implemented improvements regarding its organizational structure. The company counts with a new horizontal approach that pursues to ensure competitive advantage by satisfying customers` needs. However, institutionalization of this new model implies a lengthy process in which different measures should be adopted to put it into effect. For this reason, this project proposes possible guidelines to take into account so as to improve the management of the structure. Particularly, the proposed enhancement is centered on the key points that could optimize the activity in the Supply Chain business unit of the company.
