When dealing with a second/foreign language (L2 henceforth) in order to successfully develop a teaching-learning process, several aspects can be tackled and they can be really different but also relevant. However, one of them can be considered as crucial regarding both the English area and the rest of subjects: motivation. According to Dörnyei (1998: 117), motivation is “one of the key factors that influence the rate and success of L2 learning, providing the primary impetus to initiate learning the L2 and later the driving force to sustain the long and often tedious learning process”. In fact, if this concept is studied in detail, it can be easily perceived that its nature is complex. In addition to it, it becomes determinant when designing and implementing a lesson plan, so that lack of motivation can be a relevant handicap if it appears when developing a teaching-learning process. Therefore, in this paper, the importance of motivation from a theoretical point of view will be faced in order to establish a basis from which the whole work is oriented towards one of the most efficient tools to achieve it: Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs henceforth) and, more concretely, the use of podcast. Therefore, the theoretical framework be formed by three main parts: a theoretical view of motivation, ICTs as a motivating resource in L2 acquisition and podcasting in the classroom. The theoretical view of motivation will deal with the different types of motivation according to the prior studies by Gardner and Lambert (1972) and their main characteristics, levels of motivation and aspects that are directly related to it. ICTs as a motivating resource in L2 acquisition will take into account several studies will be reviewed to point out the most important advantages of using these resources in the class. In doing so, the new roles of the teacher and the pupils will be also highlighted, as well as the benefits of using ICTs in a L2 classroom. Besides, previous studies in which this resource has been implemented in order to improve students' motivation will be also reviewed. Regarding podcasting in the language classroom, the use of 3 podcast and podcasting -podcast implies a final production ready to use and podcasting implies developing this technological resource, in this case, in an educational context- will be dealt with. For that, several previous works will be analysed in order to extract the advantages of using this resource in the classroom in order to motivate the students when acquiring L2. Once the theoretical framework is presented in detail, this work will focus on a teaching proposal which will be designed for students of English as a foreign language at the sixth level of the Primary Education Stage. The project will be implemented in a state school placed in the Spanish town of La Vall d'Uixó in which students use Spanish and Catalan as instrumental languages as both of them are official languages in the Valencian Community. Therefore, the teaching proposal presented implies the development of a task in which the students will do three main activities by means of podcasting. These three activities are totally integrated in the school curriculum so that their objectives, contents and assessment are adapted to the daily reality of an educational context. In addition, the work is completely adapted to one of the most important characteristics of the current legal framework: the key competences. As this paper will state, podcasting implies the use of a technology which can help developing the whole set of seven key competences, which become essential knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for each individual in order to have a fulfilling life as an active member of the society. Besides, this teaching proposal contains as an integrated part the objective of determining whether the level of motivation that the students have when using podcasting in their foreign language class increases or not. Therefore, the achievement of this main objective will be focused on three aspects that this paper will try to shed light on. The first aspect is to find out if the students are more motivated towards the English area after doing the task. The second aspect deals with knowing if the students prefer ICTs activities and, more concretely, podcasting rather 4 than more traditional activities. The third aspect tackles if the language attitudes of the students become better towards English after developing the podcasting task. This objective will be evaluated by means of a questionnaire that the students will fulfil on two different phases of the teaching proposal: the first one before the implementation of the task and the second one after doing it. Once the results are gathered, these will be presented and conclusions will be taken in order to shed light on the whole issue. Thus, this paper will cover both a theoretical aspect and also a practical one, not forgetting the fact that the whole project will be implemented in a real setting and being adapted to the requirements of the educational context and circumstances.ca_CA
