The study described below focuses on the House of Habsburg's iconography which has a presence
in San Lorenzo del Escorial. The monastery was built in a short period of time according to an order
by Philip II of Spain and its monumental dimensions do not overshadow the iconography
represented by the monarch there. The present paper shows a study on three different types of
iconography. First of all, there is a focus on the war and the importance it has on the empire and the
lineage of the House of Habsburg through an analysis of a room called Sala de Batallas. Secondly,
there is a comparative analysis of Philip II of Spain and King Solomon, from the perspective of a
good Christian king of the period. Finally, this study examines the iconograpy of death through the
Royal Pantheon where the remains of almost all the monarchs of Spain lie. [-]
