Improving wellbeing can benefit societies, since workers with good standards of wellbeing at work tend to be more productive, more loyal, and provide better customer satisfaction. In the pursuit of employees’ well-being, flexible work practices have spread among organizations during recent decades, as it is widely accepted that they are essential for balancing successfully work and personal life. I have carried out a literature review and an empirical study -transversal and longitudinal- regarding flexible work practices and job satisfaction in the public sector. The findings show that satisfaction and perceived success differ by educational level and status, satisfaction is linked to flexible working schedules and law reforms have not affected all organizations equally. Finally, implications for the HHRR departments of the organizations are discussed. [-]
