Multilingualism is a growing phenomenon of importance due to the development of
globalisation during the centuries, provoking that many languages are exposed to people in
today’s different communities. Therefore, this human capacity is increasingly recognized and
valuable due to its many advantages. Thus, investigating it and the many factors that lead to
multilingualism is crucial to better understand nowadays realities in many countries. Children
are key in this paper as they are considered the promoters of this phenomenon. Studies on
their many aspects from psycholinguistic to social are highlighted in this paper, together with
an emphasis on several myths and advantages following with pedagogical implications to
improve today’s realities in English classrooms. Final conclusions will be obtained at the end
of the paper regarding all this aspects. [-]
