Wendy Wasserstein y la unidad entre mujeres

Abstract

Este ensayo saca a la luz los motivos por los que se hace necesario prestar atención al trabajo de la dramaturga norteamericana Wendy Wasserstein (1950-2006), destacando diversas iniciativas que la llevan a ser considerada por ciertos críticos literarios como toda una pionera. Entre ellas, nos centramos en la importancia que concede al reflejo del tema de la unidad entre las mujeres en sus obras teatrales. Para realizar esta exposición de manera ordenada, comienzo señalando cómo a pesar de que existe un corpus teórico y aplicado sobre el tema de la unidad entre las mujeres, sin embargo, no se le presta en él la atención debida a su proyección en el ámbito de los estudios teatrales, a pesar de su importancia. A ello sigue el análisis de tres de las obras de Wasserstein que mejor sirven para demostrar lo interesante y lo necesario que resulta llevar a cabo este tipo de investigación, tanto por motivos académicos, como por los beneficios sociales que se pueden derivar del mismo.

This essay highlights the reasons why it is necessary to pay attention to the literary production of the North-American playwright Wendy Wasserstein (1950-2006), focusing on her diverse initiatives that have made certain literary critics consider her an authentic pioneer. Among these, I pay special attention to the importance that she confers to the theme of female bonding in her plays. With the purpose of showing this analysis in an orderly way, firstly, I explain that even if there is a theoretical and practical corpus dealing with the subject of female bonding, however, it does not pay due attention to its projection in the field of theatre studies, thus ignoring its relevance. Then, I have included an analysis of the three plays written by Wasserstein that best demonstrate how interesting and necessary it is to carry out this type of research, not only for academic reasons, but also for the betterment of our society.
