Habilidades matemáticas básicas y funcionamiento ejecutivo en infantil: papel en la predicción de futuras dificultades matemáticas

Abstract

Este estudio tiene como objetivo aportar información sobre el peso que tienen las diferentes habilidades cognitivas en Infantil, tanto matemáticas como de funcionamiento ejecutivo, para predecir futuras dificultades del aprendizaje de las matemáticas. Para ello, se formaron dos grupos de 6 alumnos de Primaria (uno de rendimiento matemático bajo y el otro de rendimiento medio), a los que se les habían evaluado en Infantil, las habilidades matemáticas básicas con la prueba TediMath y las funciones ejecutivas con la prueba BRIEF para profesores. Los resultados evidenciaron la relación entre estas habilidades cognitivas y el rendimiento matemático posterior. Las operaciones lógicas y la memoria de trabajo son las que mayor poder predictivo manifiestan. Por tanto, un maestro de Educación Infantil debería tener en cuenta estas habilidades, con el fin de trabajar en la prevención de las dificultades de aprendizaje en matemáticas.

The aim of this study is to provide information about the importance of different cognitive abilities in preschool, both mathematics and executive functioning, in order to predict future mathematical difficulties. For this, two groups of 6 students of primary school were created (one with low math achievement and the other with medium math achievement). They were evaluated in preschool about basic mathematical skills with Tedi-Math´s test and executive functioning with Brief´s test for teachers. The results showed the relationship between these cognitive skills and later mathematics achievement. The results confirm that both logical skills such as working memory have high predictive power. Therefore, kindergarten teacher should be aware of these skills in order to work on the prevention of learning difficulties in mathematics.
