This study offers a qualitative analysis of the strategic use of humor during the demonstration known as Occupy Wall Street from a pragmatic perspective. It aims to provide an answer for the reasons and means by which the demonstrators used humor according to the General Verbal Theory of Humor (Attardo & Raskin 1994) as well as the Cooperative Principle (Grice 1975) and Speech Acts theories (Austin 1962). With the study of signs carried by the protesters, the analysis provides insights of the powerful potential that humor has in order to facilitate outreach and mobilizationca_CA
