The aim of this study is to determine if a reward produces an improvement in executive control and to what extent this improvement occurs depending on the reward degree. Likewise, it is intended to observe how the Reward Sensitivity (RS) influences on the performance of the cognitive control task, so we can value if those subjects with a higher RS show more sensitivity at both brain and behavioral level in a reward environment. For this purpose, we selected a sample of 23 subjects (average age = 37.30, SD = 9.929, age range = 20-56 years old) who have completed The Sensitivity to Punishment and Sensitivity to Reward Questionnaire (SPSRQ; Torrubia et al, 2001), and who have made the "Counting Stroop Task" in the MRI scanner. The behaviour results show that there are significant differences in executive functioning depending on the different reward conditions, taking as measures the reaction time (RT), the percentage of correct responses and standard deviation. FMRI results show a parametric increase in the left inferior frontal cortex and a parametric decrease in the right fusiform gyrus, the left caudate, the right postcentral gyrus, the right precuneus and the hippocampus. Referring to the correlation between RS and the executive functioning in the different reward conditions, it has been found that subjects with high RS show more difference between the RT among the conditions of higher and lower reward magnitude and a more difference in the RT variability in these conditions. Regarding this, FMRI effects are a parametric increase in the left insula and the right caudate. [-]
