Searching new organizational paradigms: empirical analysis about Self-Management Teams, organizational behaviors and Well-Being
Barghouti, Zina
In response to pressing social challenges such as economic inequality and job instability, this thesis explores alternative management models to transcend traditional structures. Focusing on analyzing behaviors like compassion and altruism, it advocates for work environments based on self-management teams to promote both employee well-being and corporate innovation. Four empirical chapters quantitatively analyze the impact of these models, emphasizing their potential to address organizational fragility and foster innovation. This thesis explores the relationship between compassion, organizational trust, and business performance, underscoring the need for self-management teams to enhance well-being and reduce bureaucracy. This thesis not only identifies contemporary organizational shortcomings but also proposes practical solutions, contributing to the field of organizational management.

Sustainability implementation and management in organizations. Proposal of framework, methodologies and business intelligence computer tools.
Ferrer Estévez, María
The thesis, titled "Sustainability Implementation and Management in Organizations: Proposal of Framework, Methodologies, and Business Intelligence Computer Tools," explores the integration of sustainability into organizational practices, focusing on two contexts: incorporating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and sustainable practices within higher education institutions, as well as the Sustainable Customer Relationship Management (SCRM). The main objective is to address research gaps and enhance managerial practices related to sustainability implementation and management. Practical tools are presented to guide organizations on their sustainability journey, including information systems and Business Intelligence tools explicitly aimed at creating a positive societal impact. These tools serve as resources, translating abstract sustainability concepts into actionable strategies and facilitating organizations in advancing towards sustainable objectives. The research employs a dual approach, using exploratory research to identify and structure new issues and constructive research to develop corresponding solutions. Systematic literature reviews on education and SDGs and SCRM provide insights into key aspects of the research topics, aiding in organizing the field. Constructive research is evident in the formulation of three tools: the SDG4-IRIS framework, the Sustainable Balanced Scorecard (SBSC) methodology, and the nine-phase methodology for SCRM. The thesis advances the theoretical and practical domains of sustainability implementation and management. It enhances understanding of sustainable practices across diverse organizational contexts and identifies gaps and future research needs. The proposed tools—the SDG4-IRIS Framework, SBSC methodology, and nine-phase SCRM methodology—foster sustainability practical implementation and management in organizations. In conclusion, the thesis contributions extend beyond individual chapters, providing organizations with practical tools, frameworks, and insights for their sustainability journey. Acknowledging limitations, the thesis serves as a valuable resource for scholars, practitioners, and decision-makers navigating the complexities of integrating sustainability into organizational practices. Furthermore, it has resulted in the publication of three papers in international journals, with a fourth paper currently under revision.

Turismo sostenible.
The objective of this thesis is to analyze the contribution of sustainability to tourism from a triple approach. The first approach examines the sustainability certifications most used by international hotel chains. It identifies which of these are the most complete based on internationally recognized criteria, and it demonstrates a priority of environmental sustainability over economic and social sustainability. The second approach focuses on the perceptions of future managers in the sector. It shows a high degree of consensus given to the importance of sustainability regardless of demographic characteristics and the uncertain environment. The third approach analyzes the changes in the perceptions of future managers derived from an external shock. It concludes that gender and proximity to the shock context are considered determining factors to explain changes in said perceptions.

Institutions, growth and comparative economic development: geographical and methodological perspectives
Aparicio-Pérez, Daniel
This thesis investigates the impact of institutions on economic growth and development, a key area in economic research. While recognizing the broad consensus on the importance of institutions, it delves into how specific institutional dimensions contribute to economic growth. It adopts diverse econometric methods to analyze institutional variations across different geographical contexts. Chapter 1 investigates the role of natural resource endowments in economic growth in a cross-country setting under heterogeneous growth paths, considering a variety of institutional factors beyond traditional channels. Chapter 2 investigates the distinct roles of national and regional institutions in European regional economic development, using multilevel econometric methods. Chapter 3 analyzes the effects of major changes in Spain's financing system on regional development, with case studies in the Basque Country and Valencian Community, employing counterfactual approaches. The thesis concludes by assessing the contributions of each chapter and the overall study.
