Es presenta una breu exposició d’alguns problemes fonamentals de la física quàntica que involucren aspectes filosòfics i epistemològics de la realitat física descrita per aquesta teoria. El principi d’indeterminació de Heisenberg, el de complementarietat de Bohr i l’experiment de “la doble escletxa” introdueixen l’aspecte més essencial de la teoria quàntica: el procés de mesura. L’experiment del “gat de Schrödinger” posa de relleu la paradoxal superposició quàntica d’estats que “col·lapsa”, en mesurar el sistema, en un dels estats implicats en dita superposició. Finalment, es discuteix breument les implicacions de la teoria quàntica en dues àrees a la frontera del coneixement actual: la física de partícules i la computació quàntica.
Basic issues of physics which involve philosophical and epistemological questions concerning physical reality are briefly examined in the light of quantum theory. The principles of uncertainly -Heisenberg- and complementarity –Bohr-, as well as the double slit experiment, introduce the most essential aspect of this theory, namely, the crucial role of the measurement process. The celebrated thought experiment of “Schrödinger cat” reveals the paradox of the quantum superposition of states which, by the mere act of measurement -observation-, "collapses" into one of the states involved in the said superposition. The paper ends with a brief discussion of the implications of quantum theory in two of the areas in the frontiers of knowledge, namely, particle theory and quantum computation.
